Dreaming in Cannes

Cannes,
à l'époque de son Festival du Film, grouille
d’une
étrange faune... une population partagée en deux
espèces bien distinctes. Il y a ceux qui espèrent être vus,
et ceux
qui espèrent voir.
Il
en résulte
une gigantesque foire où les regards se perdent souvent sur
n’importe qui, et où les corps s’offrent
à
tout un chacun. Deux rêves s’entrechoquent
alors : celui de croiser la
Star (ci-dessous Fanny Ardant) pour les
badauds, et celui de rencontrer
un Producteur pour les
apprenties starlettes. La frustration de ceux-ci et de
celles-là
reste néanmoins peu évidente, tant le plaisir des
voyeurs
semble égaler celui des exhibitionnistes. C’est
là, sans aucun doute, un condensé d’une
réalité de notre époque...
où voir et
montrer ont bousculé le verbe être.

Cannes, at the time of its Film Festival, lives a strange
fauna...
a population divided in two quite distinct species. There are those
which hope to be seen,
and
those which hope to see.
It
results a
gigantic fair from it, where the glances are often lost on no matter
whom, and where the bodies are offered to everyone. Two dreams are then
banging together : that to cross the Star (above Fanny
Ardant) for
the idlers, and that to meet a Producer for the starlets. The
frustration of those and these remains nevertheless not very
obvious, as the voyeur's pleasure seems to equal the
exhibitionist's. It is there, without any doubt, a digest of a
reality of our time...
